Q. Where and what is the retreat center like at which we will be staying?
What others have said:
"The property this retreat is held borders the national forest and lies at the base of towering Mount Mitchell. It felt like I was on vacation in a painting...words cannot describe the property itself. I had high expectations when I signed up and they were easily surpassed in every aspect. Liz knows how to relax and I suggest you follow her lead! The chef was amazing, talented, and friendly. There was healthy food on the table at all times. This was the best money I've EVER invested into myself. Thank you Liz!”
“Everything was perfect. Exactly what I needed that I didn’t even know I needed. I feel like I can breathe again. And I had no idea this place would be so magical.”
“What would I change? Nothing! Not a single complaint. This weekend was amazing. And the food was SO GOOD! Thank you so much!"
A. The original “FINDING ANSWERS” retreat as well as others are typically hosted about 30-40 minutes northwest of Asheville, NC, in a small and rustic mountain retreat center. The center sits on a creek in the middle of a national forest filled will old growth trees, waterfalls, trails, and wildflowers galore. The “sanctuary” has one main lodge, and several smaller “huts” for more primitive and private sleeping that are scattered around the property. Our rooms are reserved in the main lodge- which means you will have a roof over your head, a normal bathroom, electricity, and a full kitchen at your disposal. If you wish to be more in touch with nature during your stay, the primitive huts may be available. Please indicate during your registration if you’d like to upgrade to your own hut. There is also a wonderful outdoor shower! Watch the birds and the sunrise while washing your hair! Rooms will be first come first serve. After your registration is complete, more details will be sent to you and you can pick which room you would like. Most likely you will have your own room, however, there are a few double rooms which will be filled by the final registrants.

Q. I have never been camping before, do I need to have any of those skills?
A. No! All you need is an open mind and a desire to spend some time outside. Even if you are not in great shape you will not have to go hiking if you don’t want to. There are many vigorous and lengthy trails, which you are welcome to explore, but it is not necessary to have a successful and wonderful retreat. There are simple walking trails and the retreat property is sanctuary in and of itself. Many choose to spend hours sitting in the gardens or by the creek which runs in front of the property. There is no need to be experienced in the outdoors.
Q. I am not really big on groups, in fact, I can be a little shy and am hesitant to come to a “group” retreat- what would it be like for me?
A. I hear you! I’d say this is one of the most common questions I get. That’s saying something isn’t it? The group size is small- anywhere from 5 to the most 10 people. This is not your typical big retreat “workshop” with intense structure and lack of personal attention. Ask any of the past introverted participants and they’ll tell you it’s easy to get comfortable here and make your own little space. You share as much as you’d like to share. As a trained therapist, I am very conscious of individual needs and have designed the retreat in a way that it should feel personal- about what you need- but with the transformative benefit and magic of a small group dynamic. You’ll be surprised at what can happen when connecting with others in this way. And again, when it comes down to it- there is no pressure for you to be a part of something you don’t want to. If you need to just come and sleep on the porch and eat great food for 3 days- I’m open to that- we can work it out for what you need! Like I said, this is a unique retreat!
Q. What will the weather be like?
A. The weather in the North Carolina mountains can be unpredictable during this time of year. It is the best time to see wildflowers, full rushing waterfalls, and other beautiful foliage. It should be sunny and warm, and since it is in the mountains, not too hot! You will receive a list of items you should bring to pack- which will include simple things like a rain jacket, sneakers or boots, and comfortable clothes. During a previous retreat it rained the entire time, and was actually quite magical and rewarding. Local weather forecast
Q. I am excited about getting a massage, can you tell me about the massage therapists?
A. You should be excited! TO THE WOODS handpicks only the best massage therapists to enhance your experience. Not only are they chosen for their skill, but also for their sensitivity and understanding of your entire experience during the retreat. More details to be listed soon regarding who will be at which retreat. In the meantime, feel free to contact us with any questions.
Q. Will I be able to explore the area?
A. If you are visiting from out of town, and would like to see Asheville or other spots, please plan a few days on either end. While you are at the retreat, it is requested that you not leave as it would disrupt the “process” of your experience. Other than that, I would be happy to talk to you about other ideas for the rest of your stay!
Q. I am flying. What airport should I use?
A. Asheville Regional Airport is the closest. Other airports nearby are Tri Cities in Tennessee, GSP in Greenville, SC, and about 2 1/2 hours away is the Charlotte airport.
Q. What time will the retreat begin and end?
A. The workshop will begin Friday evening. Check in between 1pm and 5 pm on Friday. The workshop ends Sunday evening after dinner. You are welcome to stay Sunday night if the space is available for an additional cost. The April 22-25 retreat ends after brunch on Monday but you are free to stay the day relaxing and leave anytime on Monday.
Q. Do you offer any scholarships or discounts?
A. The workshop is already priced at its minimum cost for execution so the likelihood for scholarships and discounts is limited. You might have noticed the price of the retreat is significantly lower than most retreats. The cost of this retreat is much lower than even a weekend stay at an average hotel! Even still, a space for one scholarship and/or a discount may be available. Please email your interest and situation and a solution can be discussed. If you choose to come with someone you know and would like to create a discount in this manner, again, send an email and something could possibly be arranged.
Q. What is your cancellation policy?
A. It is understandable that things come up. If you cancel with a 3 week notice, and your spot is filled, you will receive a full refund. If you cancel with a 3 week notice and your spot is not filled, you will receive a refund minus $100. If you cancel the week of the retreat, at this time all funds have been used for executing the workshop, and a refund will not be available. However, if there is a waiting list and your spot is filled at this late notice, you will receive a refund anyway. But please do your best to plan accordingly. This retreat is for you. Nothing save emergencies should get in the way of that!
Q. Are there other things I should know?
A. You will receive via email a packet of information to help you prepare for the workshop retreat. Please feel free to contact me directly with other questions.
